Elementary News and Announcements

Greetings!  This school year is off to a positive start!  This school and community are so welcoming and I am honored to be here.  Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!  Please feel free to contact me with questions, thoughts and concerns at any time.

This year we are launching Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  This approach has been found to be highly effective in building positive behaviors as well as fostering a positive learning environment for all students. Every staff member is taking a proactive role in teaching our students respectful, responsible, safe behaviors and reinforcing them. To reinforce these expectations, students will be receiving individual “Rocket Fuel” tickets to be put into a Winning Wednesday drawing for a small prize.  We will begin distributing “Rocket Fuel” tickets on Monday, October 22nd!

We are currently in the process of applying for a NYS grant to fund a four year old pre-kindergarten program.  If approved for funding we are hoping to offer pre-k beginning in January, 2019.  Eligible children must turn four on or before December 1st, 2018.  Our preK students will follow the same school calendar and schedule our K-12 students follow.  The school day begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:00.  Breakfast and lunch are free to all DCS students.  If you are interested in enrolling your child in our prospective preK program, please contact the Elementary School as soon as possible.
