Emergency Evacuation DRILL Scheduled

Dear Families,

DeRuyter Central Schools will be practicing an Evacuation Drill on Tuesday October 16th and wanted you to be informed about the process.  It is important that students and staff are prepared for any kind of emergency and how we need to react.  On a yearly basis we traditionally do 16 drills, including hold in place and lock-out drills.  Every two years we need to practice an Evacuation Drill which we are doing on 10/16.

The drill on October 16th will be a practice of what is needed to do if an evacuation of the building and grounds is warranted.  The process for this drill will include walking to several different holding places (Town Library, American Legion, and the Fire Department), and will happen at the end of the day. At the completion of the drill, students will be transported home by their regular bus from one of these holding places.  K-5 walkers will be walked back to the main campus to be released and 6-12 walkers will be released from the holding place.

Thank you for continued collaboration educating our children in this community, and if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to either of us at dbrown@deruytercentral.org, springer@deruytercentral.org or at 315-852-3400.

In case of inclement weather, we will postpone the drill until Thursday, October 18th.
